Myrtle Beach is in the middle of chaos. It starts around May 12th and ends on Memorial Day … yes, it’s BIKE WEEK(s)!
I usually try to lay low and more or less, hide, from Bike Week however, my co-worker Mike, had a 40th Birthday. Mike is a biker and rides the whole week. His family even comes down for the event! The whole Biker thing looks good on him but me on the other hand, I look like a scared little chihauhau hanging out with a pit bull or something. The only thing I really can relate to with Bike Week is loving all the leather being worn!
Mike’s wife, Alex had the sweetest surprise birthday for him. I had a blast and got to hang out with my buddy Glenn from work and his fiancé- Brandi. AND you know, Brandi! She’s my photoshoot girlfriend. I always have to make sure I’m posing around her!
I tried to make these unbelievably Cucumber Mojitos like I had at Co Sushi but… they tasted pretty bad. haha… Glenn and Brandi were being nice trying to make them taste better. If you have a good recipe, let me know! I want to try again.
So, to the BIKE part of my story! As the gals were all chilling out back, the boys went to the garage and were drooling over the motorcycles. I don’t know what they see but I guess they just kind of sit and stare at the bikes and bond. Maybe it’s like girls and gossip magazines. Once you put a gossip magazine in my hand, I want to tell every girl in the room the latest person Katy Perry is dating!
Another co-worker of mine and her husband came. We got on the subject of motorcycles ourselves and I piped up saying that I don’t think I’ve ridden one before. And that opened up this can of worms..
Biker Bree was about to happen! It was so fun even if I only went around the block. I really see why people like these things so much! However, I would only go with someone who’s been riding for a while.
I have a video but it came out way too dark. Most of the comments I made were about the awesome leather jacket I was able to wear though.. haha.
We had a fun night celebrating Mike’s birthday with close friends as WELL as my first bike ride! Maybe I’ll even try it again someday….
On Sunday, it was my Dad’s Birthday! It was raining so that new badminton set wasn’t really going to work. We still had a nice dinner of Fried Chicken and dad got to open other presents, too! Sasquatch even gave a few…
Ok, that was my weekend! I have a few other activities planned this week so I’ll let you know how those go, too! Have a nice week!
4 days in New York turned me into a hipster. I’ve reached out to the fine folks of Warby Parker to help me accomplish that task. haha
In all seriousness, I really loved the Warby Parker brand for a while now. Recently during my trip to NY, I went in a store and just felt the coolness swallow me whole. Yep- I’m now a Warby fan!
Not only for the great eye glasses choices but for their smart branding. Want to know the person behind their magic? It’s the one and only Jack Spade. Who might this be? Well, you might have heard of his wife, Kate.
Jack is known for turning brands inside out and focusing on their personality rather than the product. He gives life to a company rather than sell it. In turn, relatability is the best marketing out there. Just ask his other clients like Target, Sephora, Etsy and of course, Warby Parker.
Anyway, back to the Amazing World of Warby Parker. They are doing something other eye care centers aren’t- making sure every customer gets the same service as if you would get in their actual store. They will send you 5 different pair of glasses for you to try on for a week and test. That way, you aren’t spending your money on something just for the ‘brand’- you get what you want! As well as the great customer service, they give a pair of glasses to someone in need every time you buy a pair. So, you feel trendy, cared for and philanthropic all in one click of a mouse!
I did my 5 pair home trial a week ago. Their packaging is even exciting!
yep- it came on my own personal bike.
It came in a nice box with fun directions. I’m okay with that, too.
Again, quirky little sayings make you feel connected to the brand. Almost like it’s yours already.
I tried these 5 kinds and some I liked and some were just.. no way jose!
After some help on Facebook and asking my friends at work.. I went for (drum roll, please)…..
Yep- crazy funky and cool! I’m excited to share this cool brand with you as well as tell you how easy they are to order from!
Now- it’s your turn! Go BROWSE and enjoy your Friday!
Lately, I’ve been really into trying and experiencing new places (if you haven’t noticed). I don’t know about you but in the summer, I feel more free to do things. Go to happy hours that last till 10 pm, travel to see concerts, take time for myself by reading a book by the beach… it’s just nice to casually do a mental check during this time of year to balance your regular life when Fall comes back around. Maybe it’s a left over feeling still from school and college but anyways, I like it so I’m keeping it.
Back to sushi. Erin and I tried this amazing new place in Market Common last weekend. It just opened about 2 months ago and it’s named Co Sushi. They have a location in Charleston named just Co which means “feast” in Vietnamese. That is on their website, I don’t know Vietnamese.
So, with this little trendy place opening in Myrtle Beach, it brings a nice hip, Charleston flair to the already trendy Market Common. I love going out there because I can find any kind of cuisine I want- Italian, Chinese, Mexican, CREPES- anything but sushi. Until now!
It’s a small restaurant but the outdoor with an open bar is really cool. Besides, someone was very smart with this little tactic. It’s right beside the movie theaters so you better believe I will be heading to the outside bar for a cocktail after I see the latest McConaughey movie.
The inside forces you to make friends with people.
The long tabled seating is really cool though. They have 4 tops and 2 tops and a long table in the middle could be for a larger party or just sucking it up and meeting someone new.
I really like the black, white and red color scheme. That is one of the most dominant color combinations and I love to see it used cleanly. They did a great job on their branding. I really like detail in the logo, menus and it’s even on the chopsticks. The Japanese pin-up girls are fun, too!
Ok, so enough about the cool atmosphere, let’s talk drinks! I was very excited about their cocktail menu. Of course, they have the normal sushi drink, sake, BUT their cocktails really deserve their front spot on the menu. The ingredients are all so different and every one of them are very tempting. We tried 4 between the 2 of us. They are a little pricey but if you are going somewhere for cocktails, try Co Sushi.
Erin had the Jalapeño Guava Margarita and I had the Cucumber Mojito to start. The margarita is already a favorite of the restaurant and it has a very spicy and unique flavor. The cucumber mojito was so refreshing that I kept the menu so I could go get the ingredients to make it myself!
On our next round, I got the CO 75. As a lover of champagne, I had to try it as the champagne was joined with gin, fresh ruby red grapefruit, grapefruit syrup and rice wine vinegar. Erin got a Cilantro Fizz which was vodka, cilantro, lychee juice, and lemongrass syrup. Both again very yummy!
The other drinks include wine and beer. They have 6 beers on draft including some Charleston breweries like Holy City and Westbrook as well as some Japanese bottled beers, too. Great options all around.
For dinner, we wanted to try a little of everything. We started with the pork & ginger gyoza dumplings. All of their dumplings are only $5 with 4 different flavors. This would be amazing to have dumplings and cocktails for a happy hour!
For dinner, I went for the safe route and got the pad thai. Okay so as a disclaimer, I’m not a HUGE sushi eater as in, I only eat sushi that doesn’t have raw fish in it. So that cuts out a lot. I decided to go for a wok dish so pad thai it is!
Pad thai isn’t very pretty but it’s always delicious. I would highly recommend it!
Erin got sushi. Not only did she get a normal roll, she tried a pressed sushi roll as well. This is REALLY cool and I’ve never seen sushi in a square before.
Everything, including our fabulous waiter, was wonderful! I would love for you to try this place. Dinner and a movie… I think so!
My mom is finishing up her final year of teaching and this past week was Teacher Appreciation Week. All of her kids did the CUTEST gifts for her. I just had to share with everyone how clever they are as well as ideas for other parents out there.
Here is a breakdown of everything so you can see the wording!
This one had a key lime cupcake in it!
Don’t you just love how sweet they are to my mom??
I know she had a fabulous week thanks to all of her cute students!
