From the festivities of Saturday, I probably should have woken up in a car. I had a gal’s night with Erin and Laura and we went to see Matt Nathanson at the House of Blues. I will admit, he wasn’t my first choice, the opening act- Andrew McMahon- was who I really wanted to see.
Andrew has been in a few bands- Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin and I was telling the girls that I usually always miss his show. I’ll buy tickets and some unfortunate event makes me arrive late the the venue and miss most of his set. When we sat down at Flying Fish and the waiter said that their printer was broken and our food would take longer… it seemed like my fate of not seeing him was happening again.
On the contrary though, we made it to the House of Blues during his second song! I was in total fan girl mode even bypassing the bar to go straight to the stage. I am really not super crazy about a lot of artists, just enjoying them as most people should, but I’ve been on the Andrew bandwagon since middle school and he has gotten me through a lot. Not the “I have problems” gotten me through, but the “wow, someone else feels the exact same way I do” issues. I hope everyone has a music artist like this that they can relate to. If not, you can borrow Andrew.
He played a lot of his new stuff and we got this little old gem as well…
After I had my little moment, Matt Nathanson was about to take the stage. The only song we really knew of his was that “Come on Get Higher” song which was good but not worth a whole night of that. We promised each other that we’d go find something else to do if it wasn’t up our alley.
However, Matt Nathanson blew us away! Not only was he hilarious, he had us dancing the whole night. He made jokes throughout the whole concert and even did this little shimmy dance while he played guitar. Such an odd ball but we had an absolute blast. His music was all mostly upbeat and he even played covers like “Fancy” and “Dance With Somebody” which he clearly knew most of his attendees were girls.
Andrew came out and they did “American Girl” cover which was pretty epic. The show was so much fun and I really encourage you to go see Matt Nathanson if he comes to your town… even if you don’t know any of his songs. You feel like he’s your best friend by the last song.
The night was young so we headed up to Main Street where our night turned into even more dancing! We went to Pirates Cove and met some really nice fellows. At one point in the night, we were all carrying about 3 different drinks from making friends with people there as well as guys in the band. I guess they liked that we were the only girls dancing.
When we were tired and the guys kept dancing on their own without us, we decided it was time for bed and headed home.
Whenever in doubt, a girl’s night is ALWAYS needed! Especially with such great ones as Laura and Erin. #HappyAlways
